styling the bump – holiday edition

With the holiday season fast approaching, so are holiday parties and gatherings! I’ve put together 4 great looks using just 6 pieces (+ accessories) to help you get through the holidays in style from cocktail parties to caroling. Just because you’re sporting a bump doesn’t mean you have to go without the perfect LBD so check out more about my fav dress here (although personally I’d probably shorten the hem by a few inches)! An eternal Nordy girl at heart, it is my first stop for most of my fashion needs. In honor of my addiction to all things Nordstrom, today’s pieces can be found either at Nordstrom.com or in-store (with the exception of one fabulous hat from anthropologie!). If you love the looks, use these pieces as inspiration to create your own version of the styles.

Look #1 – Holiday Shopping: Fabled Cloche Hat from anthropologie, Valentino ‘Aphrodite’ bag, Alberto Fermani Riding Boot, Winter Kate ‘Dixie’ dress. Add tights or leggings depending on your climate!

Look #2 – Cocktails with Friends: Jimmy Choo ‘Private’ in bronze glitter, Faux Fur Vest by Kenna T, Lanvin glass statement ring, Winter Kate ‘Dixie’ dress.

Look #3 – Christmas Parties: Feather Skirt by Robert Rodriguez (in stores), Jimmy Choo ‘Glitter’ Clutch, Lanvin Curb Link Chain Necklace, Vince Angled Panel Sweater.

Look #4 – Tree Hunting & Caroling: Michael Kors straight leg pants, Sorel ‘Joan of Arctic’ boot, Add Down chevron quilted jacket, Vince Angled Panel Sweater.

sweet dreams & ruffle butts

Making my daily trip to zulily.com I ran across a couple of sales that piqued my interest. It has become one of my favorite places to browse for fabulous brands that are new to me and today’s offering did not disappoint! The first was a sale for Nook Sleep Systems. Intrigued, I headed over to their website to learn more. Not only are their crib mattresses one of a kind, but the focus of the company is making a smarter, safer, healthier infant sleep system. Learn more about it here!

Not only are they making a healthier sleep system for baby, but they are Made in the USA from their offices in Hermosa, CA to packaging and manufacturing in SoCal, organic wool from California and Oregon and organic cotton from Texas, this company is 100% home-grown! Don’t miss the adorable bedding (all organic) available online from Nook directly and through 11/16 up to 50% off on Zulily!

Also on Zulily today… when I saw the sale on Ruffle Butts I just couldn’t resist posting about it! I mean honestly, is there anything cuter than a baby’s little tush covered in ruffles?! Up to 40% off on Zulily through 11/17. Also check out their website here for more adorable outfits and accessories. They even offer a customizable option (team colors perhaps?).

I know the boys have been a little left out it my recent postings on fashion for baby so I promise to find something completely fabulous just for them very soon!

nursery inspiration: world traveler

For those who know me, you know that I love to travel – I live for it. Today my nursery inspiration comes from travels the world over from India to Paris and a few places in between. I started with this fabulous quilt from Anthropologie. Although it wont fit baby’s crib, the twin size would be a great throw for your rocker/glider and later as a bedspread. Using rich, darker colors keep the walls light (ivory, pale golden yellow, or even the two colors striped). One thing I love about this nursery is that it would be perfect for boy or girl by simply changing out the light fixture and framed art. And again – something I always love – the colors will easily grow from nursery to toddler and beyond.

1. quilt from Anthropologie 2. removable wall art “incredible circus” 3. framed vintage Vogue cover (1939) 4. orange rug from IKEA 5. yellow curtains from IKEA 6. Sofie la Giraffe teething toy 7. black crystal chandelier 8. crib & changer combo from Nursery 101

PLEASE don’t forget to vote for us here!!! Thank you!

looks we love: alice + olivia

If you haven’t had the chance to check out Gilt Groupe yet, do it immediately and I promise you will be completely addicted! Today one of the sales features kids clothing from alice + olivia.  Although these fab looks are arguably a bit of a splurge, they are just to die for!

The restrained color palette used doesn’t usually come to mind when thinking of a little girl but mixed with the fun lines and strong colors (like coral and red) it comes together looking perfectly polished. My absolute favorite piece is the black and white shirt dress pictured below. Be sure to check out the entire collection for more fabulous black and while dresses, red silk tops, and animal print cardigans!

Pictured above (from top): coral terry zip hoodie, army green tiered tank dress, beige silk dolman sleeve parka, charcoal cascading cardi

Right: bow neck shirt dress in black and white with tulle-backed striped skirt

must-haves for bringing baby home

The big day is almost here – the nursery is ready and you’re packed for the hospital, you’ve had the shower and now you just cannot wait for that little one to make their big entrance. You think you are completely ready for baby to come home and then the panic sets in – do I have everything? What am I missing? I can’t possibly have thought of every detail!

Well, here is a little guide to the essentials for bringing baby home! It is also a great list to use when registering or shopping for shower gifts.

Infant Apparel/Layette – 1 outfit to take baby home, 8 onesies (long and short sleeve), 8 coverall/footie outfits, 2 sweaters, 6-12 pairs of socks, 4 pajamas (sleep sacks, gowns, etc), 4 recieving blankets, 4+ bibs, 6+ burp cloths, 2-4 knit hats. DEPENDING ON CLIMATE: 1-2 jackets, 1 switmsuit, 1 brimmed hat, 1 pair sunglasses.

Blankets – 2 recieving blankets, 3 stroller blankets, 2 smaller snuggle blankies, 4 swaddle blankets (I would fall asleep with one of these incredibly cozy blankets from Little Giraffe!)

Diapering & Bathing – cloth or disposable diapers, baby bath, diaper wipes, diaper rash ointment, cold cream, baby bath wash, baby shampoo, baby lotion, hooded towl (For bath products I love Mustela! Check them out at Nordstrom.com)

Feeding & Play – bottles, bottle warmer & cleaning supplies, boppy (or similar nursing pillow), play mat (like this one from Baby Einstein), pacifiers or soothies, bumbo baby seat, teething toys

Out & About – stroller, car seat, car seat adapter, diaper bag (check out these adorable bags from Petunia Pickle Bottom), nursing cover (these Bebe Au Lait covers are practical and pretty)

kushies

Originally started as a doll clothing company in 1953, Kushies (originally spelled Kooshies) pioneered a form-fitted, reusable cloth diaper launched in the late 1980’s. At that time they gained market share based not only on the quality and function of the product, but also because they offered an eco-friendly product at a time when there was a new and growing awareness of environmental issues.

Aside from being featured in many magazine publications including Baby, Parenting, Hudson’s and Pregnancy & Newborn, Kushies apparel has also been seen on the babes of celebrities from supermodels (Heidi Klum) to politicians (Tony Blair).

Shop online in the US or use the “Where to Buy” feature on their website to find a location that carries their product. Also – you can currently find Kushies brand clothing on zulily.com.

Finally, where did the name come from you may ask? Kushies was picked to suit a global market, a word that is easily pronounced in many languages.
