{nursery inspiration} black & white

A nod to sophisticated design is becoming more and more common in the world of nursery decor. While new takes on classics like animals & the ABC’s continue to make appearances, it’s the inspired, more playful versions of an adult home that are really making waves when it comes to rooms for the little ones these days.

On that note, for the next week we’ll be focusing on two colors often taken for granted when it comes to a nursery color palette: black & white! These two staple neutrals can easily go from dramatic design to a clean backdrop for all the other colorful things in your life. Today I’m kicking off a week of love for two of the bascis, black & white, with a gender-neutral nursery inspiration board.

bringing up bebe

image from stephmodo

I’m sure this isn’t the first place you’ve run accross the book “Bringing Up Bebe” as it seems to have been making it’s way around the internet quite a bit as of late, even rating an article in the Wall Street Journal.

The main idea? Pamela Druckerman, an American mother raising her children in Paris, marvels at the typical behaviors of the French children she knows (and how different it is from many American kiddos). They sleep through the night at 2 – 3 months, they patiently sit at the table during meals and are likely to play contentedly while their mothers sip coffee & chat.

Although I have not yet read the book myself, some of the key ideas from reviews and articles boil down to this:

– Teach, don’t discipline.

– Practice Calm Authority.

– Teach delayed gratification & patience.

– Remind children, “it’s me who decides.”

– “Please” and “thank you” are required.

All in all, pretty solid ideas to run with if you ask me! Have you read the book yet? Any thoughts or feedback?

{styling the bump} packing for a sunny weekend get-away

Fabulous style doesn’t always have to come with a fabulously high price tag – in fact – when you’ve got a rapidly growing bump to style I would guess most people prefer that it didn’t! An easy favorite for fashionable pieces that won’t break the bank, I’ve revisited one of my favorite online styling tools from H&M.

Although the sunshine and warmer temps may be making an appearance in some parts of the country, here in the PNW we’re still in the midst of the cold with a few snowflakes even making an appearance last weekend.

Therefore, with sun on the brain this week’s {styling the bump} features 5 fab ensembles with just a few select pieces perfect for a fashion-concious mama-to-be on a weekend trip to sunny Palm Springs (or somewhere of the like)!

Aside from the fact it might be more practical if the aqua skirt were just a bit longer, I think both the colors and materials play up trends of the season nicely without being flat out trendy. Plus, these versatile pieces will not only work great for the early to mid stages of a growing belly but will also look fabulous after baby has arrived! And again, one of my favorite things about using H&M as a style resource at any stage (pre, during, and post bump) the price is right for a fashionable wardrobe that won’t break the bank.

Get the Look: (sorry friends, the H&M website is currently unavailable for me to link to but I promise I’ll be back later to update it!)
