strollers in review

The other day we received an email from one of our readers expressing how confusing shopping for a stroller can be. With so many brands to choose from and new models coming out every year, it’s intimidating simply picking a place to start. Today we’re excited to be sharing just a few of the best-rated strollers on the market!

To get started, be sure to consider several things: 1. Read reviews – people who have already used this product can often be one of your best resources. 2. Consider your lifestyle – do you need a stroller that travels easily? Will you be taking your stroller on trails and other rougher terrain? 3. This will be a must-have accessory for the next couple of years so make sure you pick one that fits not only your lifestyle but your personal style as well.

Bugaboo – referred to by one of my girlfriends as the ‘Cadillac of Strollers’ – is a favorite of style-savvy mamas and celebs alike.

The ‘Chamelion’ is the fully-loaded model for parents who want it all. Completely modular, options include a pram-style bassinet for infants, a rear facing seat for babies, and front facing option for toddlers. Also – car seat adaptable. Customize fabrics, colors, and accessories (including iPhone holders) even the handlebar height can be adjusted. Perfect for multi-terrain as well, keep small swivel wheels in front for maximum maneuverability in the city; simply reverse the handlebars and tackle rough terrain with the larger wheels forward. Also from Bugaboo – the ‘Bee’, complete and compact for parents who live on the fly. Extremely maneuverable and nimble, the Bee folds completely to fit in any closet or trunk!

BOB Revolution – one of the absolute best on the market right now when it comes to jogging strollers. It maneuvers easily enough for the city and has tired and suspension that allows you to take it to the trails or the beach. Lightweight, also fold easily. Great for families who are in and out of the car a lot! Plenty of storage space underneath – plus infant seat adaptable.

Another standout in the jogging category is the Bumbleride Indie. Weighing in at only 20 lbs, the Indie is agile enough to be an urban jogger and still fully capable in rough terrain. Additional pluses: adjustable handlebar, removable cup holder, and large storage basket.

Lastly in our little trio of strollers today – a fabulously reviewed vehicle for two! Whether you are doubly blessed with twins or have an infant and toddler in your brood, the Kolcraft Contours Options Tandem gets high marks. Seats can be adjusted to face front, back, or face one another and fully recline. Works with most of the infant seats on the market and has a good amount of storage underneath.

If you have questions about other baby gear or even specific stroller models, please be sure to send them our way and we will try and answer all of them!

nursery inspiration: modern vintage

The other day I found this gorgeous wallpaper (inspired by a vintage French pattern) at Anthropologie and I knew it had to be in the next nursery inspiration post!

Use the wallpaper on your focus wall to make an impactful statement. This is usually the wall you would want the crib (or bed) against. For the other three walls, try a delicate dove gray as seen in the wallpaper and the crib bedding.

The furniture I picked all have clean modern lines, a nice contrast to the busy bright wallpaper. These fun wall decals would be perfect to use around the dresser/changing table on a wall opposite the crib. All the elements included have as much textural interest as possible making the room feel rich and warm with lots of depth!

Chair: Lucy Upholstered Chair from Target $429.99. Wallpaper: ‘Blazing Poppies’ from Anthropologie $148/roll. Fabric: for Custom Changing Pad Cover (to be attached to dresser) $25 from Fingers & Toes on Etsy. Dresser: Engan 4-drawer dresser from IKEA $149. Crib Bedding: Bella Notte Silvermist Linen and Quilt Set from Dimples & Dandelions $322. Rug: Sheepskin from West Elm $249. Curtains: Coqo Curtain in Natural from Anthropologie $108-$168. Wall Decals: Carnival Birds from LeoLittleLion on Etsy $74.

storage: getting creative

I love our cozy one bedroom condo, I really do. They layout of the living space is great. The location is perfect. Not to mention, we’re right on the river and there is just something about being on the water that makes me happy. Especially in the summer, I love that we can open the living room up to the back patio and practically double our entertaining space! The thing I don’t love? The closets – or lack thereof. There is a closet in the bedroom and a teeny tiny one in the hall but by the time we attempt to find room for our clothes, vacuum, gym bag & boxing gloves, yoga mat, skis and snowboard (forget about all my scrapbook stuff that is eternally in the storage unit) well, you get the picture. It just isn’t enough!

This same problem – the great storage space dilemma – is a struggle in many children’s bedrooms and playrooms, including nurseries. Today we’re going to take a look at a few creative solutions to the age-old problem of storing our stuff!

A fabulous idea for storing small metal toys (like matchbox cars) came from the blog Nursery Notations. These wall-mounted magnetic strips (usually meant for knives or other kitchen gadgets) are perfect for keeping small toys out from under-foot! Similar products can be found at IKEA, Target, and Bed, Bath, & Beyond among others.

Wall-mounted shelves are also a great way to get some of the clutter up off the ground. Even better, when they can double as decor! This darling boat-shaped shelf is from a nautical nursery designed by Little Crown Interiors.

Miss James of Bleubird Vintage had some fabulously inspired organization when putting together her daughter Gemma’s sweet little nursery. Old milk crates and wire baskets (watch for sharp edges!) just as functional as aesthetically pleasing, are perfect for storing toys and books. Also – I love how she hung several darling dresses on the wall above the crib – both helping with the limited closet space and doubling as unique wall decor! Check out the rest of Gemma’s nursery here. Photos from the Bleubird blog.

In a nursery, rather than having separate changing table and dressers combine the two into one. Add a changing pad to the top of a dresser and the piece can do double duty! Not to mention, once you don’t need the changing table simply remove the pad and you have a piece appropriate for an older child. If you don’t have enough room in the drawers for diapers, wipes, etc use decorative photo boxes on wall-mounted shelves to store your extra supplies.

The Expedit bookcase from IKEA pictured below is perfect storage for nursery, child’s room, or even a playroom. Some shelves can be used to display toys or other decor while the rest hold baskets for storing toys and games. An organization idea for little ones that can’t read yet: snap a picture of what goes in each basket, laminate and attach so they know where their toys go when it’s time to help clean up!
