{real rooms} mixing modern & vintage

Happy Moday all! This week I am fortunate to be blogging from sunny Palm Springs, CA where I get to spend five whole days visiting my grandparents and soaking up some much needed sunshine.

Today I wanted to share some fabulous nurseries which all have done a wonderful job of combining modern elements with vintage style for an end result that is truly beautiful!

The first is a nursery for two – from the fab NYC apartment of textile designer Lulu deKwiatowski – for her darling twins. Seen here on The Nero Chronicles.

Next, a sweet blue & green nursery for baby Elliot from The Newlywed Diaries. One of the best parts about the space? They did it all for under $1000!

Last but certainly not least, this is Aria’s nursery featured in the Project Gallery on Project Nursery. It’s a beautiful room with modern pieces and lots of vintage style – not to mention, eco-friendly and organic!

{nursery inspiration} turquoise, coral & gray for twins

First off, I have to admit I have been completely smitten with this Flensted ‘Shoal of Fish’ mobile lately and am guilty of using it in several nursery inspiration posts as of late but honestly, it’s fabulous so I say it’s fair game!

Secondly – I wanted a room that not only is perfect for twins, but would be appropriate for boy/girl twins. The combination of the turquoise and coral anchored with gray keeps it fresh, bright, and beautiful while still gender-neutral and fun. In order to balance a boy/girl nursery without it being blase and boring, it is important to use a mix of masculine and feminine pieces; for example: the stark & modern fish mobile contrasted with the floral throw pillow.

Flensted ‘Shoal of Fish’ mobile ($49). ‘Asian Poppy’ Curtain ($39). Behr paint in ‘Sterling’ 780E-3. IKEA print on canvas ($49.99). IKEA ‘Gulliver’ cribs ($139 ea). Nurseryworks ‘Empire’ Rocker ($800). West Elm Sheepskin Rug ($259). Left Bank Chest dresser ($259). Orimono throw pillow ($88). Oilo ‘Modern Berries’ crib bedding ($49 – $250).

{mama style} it’s all about the shoes

This week I want to feature my fashion favorites to build a functional and chic wardrobe, still appropriate for a mama’s day-to-day with the kiddos plus the sassy additions to keep you looking fabulous for any occasion. It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a shoe-addict so what better way to begin building your style-staples than from the toes up? Today, it’s all about the shoes, baby!

To cover your bases with the flats – include a metallic (a neutral must-have), an animal print (great with everything from denim to a LBD), and a basic comfortable black. I tend to lean towards a ballet flat however this category could be satisfied by anything from a loafer to mocasin to oxford depending on your personal style.

For most climates, your warm weather footwear should include a nice neutral wedge and a flat sandal (black, tan, or a metallic).

When it comes to boots, both of these great options can cover your bases from denim to feminine dresses + easy-to-wear heel heights will keep you mobile enough to chase after the littles.

To round out a solid shoe wardrobe, every girl needs a few heels in her life. A classic black (either round or pointed toe) is a must. Nude is great for lengthening legs plus allows the outfit to shine. Last, but certainly not least – pick one fabulous shoe that screams your style (I love crazy textures and bold colors) that will make you feel like a million bucks any day of the week!

Find my shoe picks here: one. two (balenciaga, Fall 2010). three. four. five. six. seven. eight. nine. ten (illustration by Ruben Toledo).

{creative details} tooth fairy door

When I saw this to-die-for tooth fairy door over at This Blessed Nest (via ohdeedoh) I knew that I had to share it!

One the best things about decorating rooms for the kiddos is that you can be as whimsical and fun as you want to – sometimes, the more the better! For example, what better way to spark their little imaginations than a tiny door in the wall just for the tooth fairy to make her magical nightime visit?

Check out The Blessed Nest here for all the details on how to complete this fantastic tiny project with lots of imagination!
