{mama style staples} belts & bags

“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” ~ Coco Chanel

It’s no secret that staying chic with a bump is no easy task, possibly even harder once the little bundle arrives.

That in mind, over the last few months we’ve been focusing on {mama style} from bump, to post-baby and beyond starting with a few style staples and basics to help build a chic, versatile, and EASY to maintain wardrobe. With the right pieces you can look fab in 15 minutes even if you haven’t had time to squeeze in that shower you are so desperately craving!

Feeding my obsession with shoes, we started from the toes up in our first {mama style} post (yes, we’re talking about the shoes!) and followed with some basic wardrobe staples. Today we continue the trend with some fabulous accessories. The best thing about accessories is if you pair the right pieces with something as basic as denim and a white tee you can still walk out of the house looking amazing. Later this week we’ll visit Sunnies, Scarves & Statement Jewelry… but for today, it’s all about the belts & the bags!

Every fashionable gal (whether a mama or not) needs these three bags in her arsenal: the chic city bag (cross-body straps a HUGE plus!), a fab clutch – great to use as a wallet, easy to transfer from one bag to another (especially to throw in a diaper bag), and a versitile tote (I love straw or canvas for summer, transition to leather or patent for fall/winter).

Adding a belt to any outfit adds an instant dose of polish – both to accentuate the waist that you’ve worked for or to cinch above a beautiful bump for a touch of much-needed definition. Three great basics to start with: a classic in rich brown, something with a pop of color, and a touch of sheen in black patent.

Hope you’ve enjoyed the first of our accessory style staples! As promised, tomorrow we’ll explore Sunnies, Scarves & Statement Jewelry. Later we’ll put together some amazing outfits, head to toe, using the pieces featured in {mama style staples}.

{my style} for work & play

Okay everyone, it’s time for {my style} again, my real life style meant to inspire looks for an active lifestyle; from out of bed to out the door in 30 minutes or less.

I’ve been finding lately that our days are absolutely packed which usually doesn’t leave time for a costume change between work & play. This outfit had to be professional (although where I work some traditional rules about attire appply, it’s just as important to be on-trend and fashion forward) but also do double-duty for a night out on the town later.

earrings & double-breasted tuxedo blazer: Lanvin for H&M top: Forever21 silk harem pants: Rich & Skinny (from Nordstrom) shoes: Dolce & Gabbana lips: Chanel ultra long-wear in Alexandrite

That’s it for this week. Go forth and be fashionable my friends!

{shades of navy} navy & yellow

I think it’s safe to say that the days of decorating for baby in only pastel pinks and blues are long gone. With that in mind, my current color of choice for high style and lots of drama is navy blue. Navy on the walls, in the curtains, on the floors… stripes and chevrons and even an octopus or two.

This week, we’ll be featuring three rooms mixing my newest favorite shade of drama (navy of course) with three different accent colors to make three very different and beautiful rooms!

curtains. firefly pendant lamp. brooklyn bridge print. dresser. fireworks rug. sunnyside pillow. gulliver crib. daydreamer settee.
