I don’t know about the rest of the country but in Portland right now it’s raining cats & dogs! Our back patio (a fabulous place to relax and entertain in nice weather) has since turned into a mini lake. The same can be said for many a backyard, neighborhood park, or playground once the sun turns to showers come fall. So… what in the world do you do with the little ones who are super active and love the outdoors once the weather gets wet?
Growing up in Seattle, some of my favorite rainy day memories were from the Seattle Children’s Museum or Pacific Science Center. Right now through Jan. 30, 2011 they have a special Harry Potter exhibit sure to please kids of all ages! In Portland, visit OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry). Also – if you have the chance to get away for a Thursday date night, check out OMSI After-Dark, an adults-only time to play and explore all the things kids young and old love about OMSI!
In other major metro areas check out California Science Center (in it’s final few weeks of it’s fabulous mummies exhibit), Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, St. louis Science Center in Missouri or Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, TX. Of course the culture-rich east coast cities including D.C. and New York have a plethora of fabulous museums etc., to entertain on a rainy day! Check out google to find a science center or children’s museum near your home.
