We all love awards season, not only for the fabulous red carpet moments but also for the fashion flaws, faux pas, and flat out disasters!
Thankfully, I think most of Hollywood’s elite got it right last night and we are excited to share some picks for Oscar Fashion. Although jewel tones ruled the red carpet at previous awards shows this season, last night had our stars wearing white (and it’s other fair-hued counterparts). Although there were a few mis-steps (not a fan of Nicole Kidman’s Dior number, although we generally love her) most did it right in looks that were everything from white hot to soft and romantic with lace trim and lots of tulle! (James Franco in Gucci, Anne Hathaway in Givenchy Haute Couture).
One star who nearly always knocks us out with her red carpet style is Halle Berry and she did not dissappoint in this lovely Marchesa number, Neil Lane jewels. With her fair skin, this could have been a disaster but Mandy Moore pleasantly surprised wearing a beautiful Monique Lhullier gown and Harry Winston jewels. Although Gwyneth Paltrow always looks gorgeous, we do wish she would have chosen something a little more figure flattering than this Calvin Klein Collection piece (Louis Vuitton jewels).
Hailee Steinfeld looked sweet and age-appropriate (she’s only 14!) in another stunning red-carpet gown from Marchesa. The shoes (Ferragamo) aren’t my favorites but we’ll give her a pass. Melissa Leo who took an award home last night rocked this season’s lace trend perfectly (can you really ‘rock’ lace?) in this beautiful piece by Marc Bouwer. Last but certainly not least, who more appropriate to close this show than Chanel? Michelle Williams looked polished and chic in Chanel Haute Couture and Harry Winston jewels, much more awards show appropriate than her Golden Globes choice.
Although white certainly ruled the night, pops of purple made a statement as well on none other than Best Actress winner (and mama-to-be) Natalie Portman!
Very appropriate that Natalie Portman accepted her award in Rodarte (as they designed the costumes for Black Swan) although I have to say her sweet Viktor & Rolf number from the Globes may have outshined this one. Also with unique takes on this usually regal hue, Scarlett Johanssen in Dolce & Gabbana (with Jeremy Renner in YSL) and my absolute favorite gown of the night, Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Couture with Neil Lane jewels.
